Seasonal Specials: Autumn Flavors at Fawaka

As the leaves change color and temperatures drop, we at Fawaka Food are excited to introduce our special autumn menu. These seasonal dishes combine traditional Surinamese cooking techniques with fall ingredients available in the Netherlands, creating a unique fusion that celebrates both our culinary heritage and the local harvest.

Pumpkin Pom

Our autumn twist on the classic pom substitutes some of the pomtajer with locally grown pumpkin, creating a slightly sweeter, more seasonal version of this beloved dish. The warm spices complement the pumpkin perfectly, making this a comforting choice for cool autumn days.

Spiced Apple Baka Bana

For this seasonal appetizer, we pair our traditional battered plantains with a spiced apple compote instead of the usual peanut sauce. The combination of sweet plantain with cinnamon and clove-infused apples creates a delightful contrast of flavors and textures.

Surinamese Mushroom Soup

Taking advantage of the abundant mushroom harvest, our chefs have created a rich, earthy soup that combines local mushrooms with Surinamese spices and a touch of coconut milk. It's the perfect starter to warm you up on a chilly evening.

Sweet Potato Roti

For this seasonal variation, we incorporate mashed sweet potato into our roti dough, giving it a subtle sweetness and beautiful orange hue. Served with our traditional chicken curry, it's a colorful twist on a classic favorite.

Spekkoek with Speculaas Spices

Our layered spice cake gets an autumn makeover with the addition of speculaas spices – the traditional Dutch spice mix used in seasonal cookies. The result is a dessert that bridges Surinamese and Dutch culinary traditions, perfect for the season.

Limited Time Only

These special menu items will be available at both our Nijmegen and Den Bosch locations from October 1st through November 30th. They're the perfect way to experience how Surinamese cuisine can adapt and evolve while maintaining its authentic character.

We invite you to visit us this autumn and discover these seasonal creations. As always, we recommend making a reservation, especially for weekend dining, as these special dishes have been very popular in previous years.
